1. Shivangi Singh ‘First Women fighter pilot to fly Rafale aircraft’

• - The real flight is set to begin for the first woman fighter pilot, Flight Lieutenant Shivangi Singh, who will fly the deadliest beast Rafale fighter aircraft into airspace.

• - Flt Lt Singh, who studied at the Banaras Hindu University, will officially join the Ambala-based No 17 squadron, also known as Golden Arrows after the completion of conversion training.
• - Shivangi Singh, who hails from Uttar Pradesh’s, Varanasi, became the first woman fighter pilot of India to fly the Rafale combat aircraft.
• - Presently, Shivangi Singh, who had been flying the MiG-21 Bison aircraft, is undergoing conversion training, which is necessitated when a combat pilot shifts from one fighter to another one. Till recently, she was reportedly serving at a fighter base in Rajasthan.

 

2. Sub Lt Kumidini Tyagi and Sub Lt Riti Singh ‘First women navy officers to be posted on Indian warship’

• - For the first-ever time in Indian history, Women officers selected to join as “Observers” (Airborne Tacticians) in the helicopter stream of the Indian Navy.
• - The entry of women in the Indian Navy was restricted to the fixed-wing aircraft that took off and landed ashore.
• - Thus, the two women officers will be the first set of women airborne combatants who would be operating from warships.
• - Sub Lieutenant Tyagi of Ghaziabad wanted to join the Navy in a combat role.
• - Sub Lt Tyagi inspiration source is  “Lt Kiran Shekhawat, a female officer who gave her life in an accident involving a naval aircraft in 2015
• -Sub Lieutenant Tyagi says, "Navy personnel work on land, air and water but I wanted to play challenging role.
• - Sub Lieutenant Riti Singh of Hyderabad is a third generation officer from his family to serve in the Indian Armed forces.
• - His grandfather was in the army and his father was a former naval officer.
• - Sub Lieutenant Riti Singh said that this is the moment of his dream coming true

 

3. Shalija Dhami ‘First female Flight Commander’

• - Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Wing Commander Shalija Dhami scripted history by becoming country’s 1st female officer to be appointed as flight commander of a flying unit.
• - She took over as flight commander of a Chetak helicopter unit at Hindon airbase in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
• - She was raised in Ludhiana, Punjab.
• - She is the 1st woman officer of IAF to be given a permanent commission for a long tenure.
• - She is a permanent commissioning officer of Flying Branch in Indian Air Force (IAF) and flies helicopters.
• - She is also the 1st women qualified flying instructors of Indian Air Force for helicopters. In her career of 15 years, Wing Commander S Dhami has flown Chetak and Cheetah helicopters

 

4. Hina Jaiswal ‘First Women Flight Engineer of Indian Air Force’

• - Flight Lieutenant Hina Jaiswal has scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman flight engineer after completing the course at the Yelahanka Air Force Station
• - As a Flight Engineer, Hina would be posted to operational helicopter units of the IAF.
• - In the unit, she would be routinely called to operate in demanding and stressful conditions, right from the icy heights of the Siachen Glacier to the seas of the Andamans.
• - Hina, who hails from Chandigarh, graduated in engineering from the Panjab University.
• - Commissioned as a warrior on January 5, 2015, in the engineering branch of the Air Force, Hina served as chief of firing team and battery commander in a frontline surface-to-air missile squadron before her selection to the flight engineers' course, which she completed on Friday.

5. Bhawana Kanth ‘First Women to qualify to go to Day Missions’

• - Flight Lieutenant Bhawana Kanth became the first woman fighter pilot who is capable of undertaking any mission during daytime.
• - She completed her training on Wednesday, 22 May which includes operational syllabus for carrying out combat missions on MiG-21 Bison aircraft.
• - Bhawana is also the first woman to be commissioned in the Indian Air Force as a Woman Fighter Pilot in 2016.
• - Kanth is currently deployed in Rajasthan along the Pakistan Border.
• - Post Bhawana’s training Mohana Singh and Avni Chaturvedi will be trained to participate in any fighter missions later on. They were formally commissioned by defence minister Manohar Parikar.
• - Born in Barauni, Bihar, Kanth was fond of sports like Kho Kho, Badminton, swimming and painting.
• - She later prepared for engineering exams in Kota, Rajasthan.
• - She was selected to be commissioned in the Indian Air Force after qualifying the UPSC Combined Defence Services (CDS) competitive exam.
• - Post this she underwent six month long stage two training in June 2016 at the Kiran Intermediate Jet Trainers at Hakimpet Airforce Station in Hyderabad.

6. Avani Chaturvedi ‘First Indian Woman who flew a Flight Aircraft Solo’

• - Avani Chaturvedi, 24, has become the first Indian woman to fly a fighter jet solo.
• - She flew a Mig-21 Bison for 30 minutes earlier this week
• - Ms Chaturvedi was one of the first three female fighter pilots to be inducted into the Indian air force.
• - Ms Chaturvedi graduated in June 2016 along with two other women, Bhawana Kanth and Mohana Singh, who will also undertake the same flight soon as part of their training.

 

7. Mohana Singh ‘First woman fighter pilot to undertake missions by day on Hawk’

• - Flight Lieutenant Mohana Singh became the first woman fighter pilot to become fully operational by day on Hawk advanced jet aircraft.
• - She landed after a gruelling 4 aircraft combat sortie at Air Force station Kalaikunda, West Bengal, which was the last syllabus sortie, of being fully operational on the Hawk Jets.
• - Her training involved flying both air-to-air combat and air-to-ground missions.
• - Singh enrolled into the fighter stream along with Bhawana Kanth and Avani Chaturvedi in June 2016.
• - She along with two other girls Bhawana Kanth and Avani Chaturvedi joined the fighter stream in June 2016.
• - Flt Lt Bhawana Kanth just became fully operational by day on MiG-21 Bison a week back.
   

8. Anjali Singh ‘India’s First Female Military Diplomat’

• - Wing Commander Anjali Singh has become the first woman to be appointed as a military diplomat in Indian missions abroad.
• - The 41-year-old IAF officer joined the Indian Embassy in Moscow as Deputy Air Attache on September 10, according to a tweet from the embassy.
• - Hailing from Bihar, Anjali became a commissioned officer in the Air Force in 2001.
• - She was part of the aeronautical engineering branch of the Air Force and was stationed at Jodhpur.
• - She trained on MiG29 fighter aircrafts and was part of the fighter squadron during her 17 years of service.

9. Shivangi ‘First Woman Pilot of Indian Navy’

• - Sub-Lieutenant Shivangi on Monday became the first women pilot in the Indian Navy as she joined operational duties at the naval base in Kerala’s Kochi.

• - The sub-lieutenant, who was born in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur, will be flying the Dornier surveillance aircraft of the Indian Navy.

10. Christian Koch and Jessica Meir ‘World’s First Female Space Walking’

• - NASA astronauts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir have made history by completing the first ever all-female spacewalk.

• - They spent seven hours outside the International Space Station (ISS) replacing a failed power control unit.
• - Ms Koch had already carried out four spacewalks but it was the first such mission for Dr Meir, who became the 15th woman to walk in space.
• - Ms Koch, an electrical engineer, and Dr Meir, who has a doctorate in marine biology, stepped outside in their Nasa spacesuits at 11:38 GMT (07:38 EDT) on Friday.
• - They made their way to a location called the Port 6 truss structure to replace the battery charge-discharge unit (BCDU).

11. Tania Shergill ‘First Time Lead Woman Army Officer Parade At Republic Day’

• - Captain Tania Sher Gill, 26, led an all-men contingent during the ceremonial Republic Day parade in Delhi's Rajpath.
• - This was be the second time in a row that a woman officer led the Corps of Signals Contingent.

12. GS Lakshmi ‘First Female Match Referee’

• - India’s GS Lakshmi will create history as the first female match referee to oversee a men's One-Day International in the opening match of the third series of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 in the United Arab Emirates.
• - This is the second significant achievement for Lakshmi this year, following her appointment as the first woman onto the ICC International Panel of Match Referees in May.
• - The 51-year old who first officiated as a match referee in domestic women’s cricket in 2008-09, has now overseen three women’s ODI matches, 16 men’s T20 Internationals and seven women’s T20 Internationals.
