Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated nuclear scientists for achieving criticality of Kakrapar Atomic Power Plant-3 in Gujarat.
In a tweet, Mr Modi said this indigenously designed 700 MWe KAPP-3 reactor is a shining example of Make in India. He said this is a trailblazer for many such future achievements.
Home Minister Amit Shah also lauded the scientists. Mr. Shah said today is a Big Day in Nuclear history as indigenously designed 700 MWe Kakrapar Atomic Power Plant-3 in Gujarat achieved criticality. He said, Nation salutes scientists on this stellar achievement.
The Home Minister said, New India is marching ahead to realise PM Narendra Modi’s vision.
2-India, Maldives sign agreement for establishment of ‘Emergency Medical Services’ in Male
India and Maldives have signed an agreement for establishment of ‘Emergency Medical Services’ in capital Male. It is one of the several small and medium projects that are being financed by India under a grant assistance of around 20 million US dollars for the neighbouring country.
Maldives foreign minister Abdulla Shaheed, while thanking the Indian government, said the emergency medical service unit will enhance timely access to quality emergency care. He added it will increase collaboration between healthcare facilities and disaster response agencies, especially during critical times of need.
3-PM Modi to deliver keynote address at India Ideas Summit today
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver the keynote address at the India Ideas Summit today. The two-day Summit which began yesterday is being hosted by the US-India Business Council. This year marks the 45th anniversary of the formation of the Council. The theme for this year’s India Ideas Summit is ‘Building a Better Future'. The Prime Minister in a tweet said that he is looking forward to addressing the summit.

The virtual Summit will witness discussions on areas including India-US cooperation and future of the relation between the two countries in a post pandemic world. Key speakers at the Summit include External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Senator of Virginia and co-chair of Senate India Caucus Mr. Mark Warner, Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, among others.
4-Harsh Vardhan says N95 masks with respirator valves do not prevent coronavirus; appeals everyone to use triple layer mask made of cloth
Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan has said that N95 masks with respirator valves in them do not prevent the coronavirus from spreading out. He said, N95 mask fitted with perforated respirator is contrary to the rules adopted to prevent the spread of coronavirus. In a tweet, Dr Vardhan appealed to everyone to use a triple layer mask made of cloth and also to encourage others for this.
Director-General of Health Services, Dr Rajiv Garg has written to the Principal Secretaries of health and medical education of all the States in this regard. In the letter, Dr Garg said that the use of valved respirator N95 masks is detrimental to the measures adopted for preventing the spread of coronavirus as it does not prevent the virus from escaping out of the mask.
In view of it, the DGHS has urged the States to instruct all concerned to follow the guidelines on the use of face and mouth cover and prevent inappropriate use of N95 masks. Dr Garg said, it has been observed that there is inappropriate use of N95 masks, particularly those with the valved respirator, by the public other than designated health workers. He also referred to an advisory issued by the Health Ministry on the use of homemade protective cover for face and mouth available on its website.
In April, the Health Ministry had issued an advisory on the use of homemade protective cover for face and mouth, asking people to wear it, particularly when they step out of their residences. It also listed the procedures of making such homemade masks, asking to ensure it fits the face well and there are no gaps on the sides.
5-Cricket: BCCI seeks government permission to host IPL in UAE

Cricket boards of UAE and Sri Lanka have offered to host the league considering the Corona situation in India. Monday’s postponement of this year’s Twenty20 World Cup, which has been scheduled to take place in Australia from 18 October, has presented the BCCI with a new opportunity to stage the IPL.
The BCCI has been looking for a new window to stage the lucrative IPL, which was postponed days before it was to begin in late March.
