1. The National Training Center of the ‘Food Safety and Standards Authority of India' inaugurated in Ghaziabad:

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurated the state-of-the-art National Training Center for the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. An e-learning app- Food Safety and Certification (FoSTaC) was also launched on the occasion. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is a statutory body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

 

2. Agni-1 medium-range ballistic missile was successfully test-fired from APJ Abdul Kalam Island:

Odisha's APJ Abdul Kalam Island medium-range ballistic missile, Agni-1 successfully trained.  Last December, India successfully test-fired Agni-5, a nuclear-capable ballistic missile capable of hitting targets up to 5,000 km away. Agni-1 to Agni-4 missiles have a range of 700 km to 3,500 km and have already been developed.

 

3. Rajesh Kumar Anand has recently taken over as the Air Officer-in-Charge Administration (AOA):

Air Marshal Rajesh Kumar Anand has taken over as the Air Officer-in-Charge Administration (AOA) on 01 June 2023. Rajesh Kumar Anand was commissioned as an Air Traffic Controller in the Administrative Branch of the Indian Air Force on 13 June 1987. He was awarded Vishisht Seva Medal in January 2022 for distinguished service.

 

4. Ajay Banga has taken over as the 14th President of the World Bank:

Indian American Ajay Banga has been sworn in as the 14th President of the World Bank. He has become the first black person to reach this position. Banga's appointment for a five-year term was announced on May 3. Banga was nominated for the post by President Joe Biden. Along with this, Ajay Banga has also become the first Indian American to hold the post of President of the World Bank.

 

5. Northern Railway zone has named train engines after martyrs:

Paying tribute to the martyrs, the 'Northern Railway' zone of the Indian Railways has named its diesel locomotives after the martyrs. The Ministry of Railways has given information about this by sharing videos and pictures through a tweet. It was written in the tweet that 'IR salutes their exceptional leadership and ultimate sacrifice for the Nation'. The name of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who was martyred in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, is written on one of them.

 

6. Nitin Agarwal has been appointed as the Director General of BSF:

IPS officer Nitin Agarwal has been appointed as the new Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF). Nitin is a 1989 batch IPS officer of the Kerala cadre. Agarwal was currently posted as the Additional Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Significantly, this post was vacant after the retirement of Pankaj Kumar Singh on December 31, 2022.

 

7. India’s First International Cruise Vessel:

India’s first international cruise vessel, MV Empress, embarked on its maiden voyage from the city of Chennai. The departure ceremony was graced by the presence of Union shipping minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who flagged off the momentous occasion. Alongside the launch of this significant cruise service, another landmark event took place at the Chennai Port – the inauguration of an international cruise tourism terminal.

 

8. Amrit Generation Campaign: Naye Bharat Ke Sapne:

The Ministry of Women and Child Development has launched an inspiring initiative called the Amrit Generation campaign. This campaign aims to empower and engage the youth of India by providing them with a platform to express their aspirations and dreams for the future.

 

9. The Amendment to the Sikh Gurdwaras Act:

The Punjab Assembly passed an amendment to the Sikh Gurdwaras Act, of 1925, aimed at liberating the broadcast of Gurbani from the alleged monopoly of PTC, a television channel associated with the family of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal. The amendment inserts Section 125A, which mandates the SGPC to provide an uninterrupted live feed of holy Gurbani, free of cost, to all media outlets and platforms worldwide.

 

10. IPS Officer Ravi Sinha takes office:

Ravi Sinha, a seasoned IPS officer, has been appointed as the chief of the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), one of India’s premier intelligence agencies. This significant appointment brings a fresh perspective to the organization as Sinha takes over from Samant Goel, who will complete his tenure on June 30.

 

11. Titan submarine tragedy:

On 18 June 2023, Titan, a submersible operated by American tourism and expeditions company OceanGate, imploded during an expedition to view the wreck of the Titanic in the North Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada. Onboard the submersible were Stockton Rush, the CEO of OceanGate; Paul-Henri Nargeolet, a French deep sea explorer and Titanic expert; Hamish Harding, a British billionaire businessman; Shahzada Dawood, a Pakistani-British billionaire businessman; and Dawood's son Suleman.

 

12. ASEAN to Hold First-Ever Joint Military Exercise in South China Sea:

ASEAN, the Southeast Asian bloc, is set to make history by conducting its inaugural joint military exercise in the highly contested South China Sea. The decision was made during a meeting of military commanders from the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Indonesia.
