UNVEIL THE MEDICAL BENCHMARKS OF NDA

Medical Criteria for NDA - ARMY, AIRFORCE & NAVY

The pros kept aside, there is a certain standard of this dignified institution. It demands minimum eligibility and intensive preparation. Without knowing the medical criteria for NDA, preparation for it is futile. So here is a simple synopsis of the medical requirements of the NDA:

  • Candidate should be aged between 16.5 years to 19 years
  • The applicant must be fit, both mentally and physically, as per the guidelines of Appendix IV of UPSC
  • A proficient batch of medical experts under the Board of Service Medical Officers will conduct the medical examination.
  • Any disability or ailment which poses interference to military duties shall not be entertained.
  • Candidates must be free from the following defects to safeguard their selection:

Wax (ears), deviated nasal septum, hydrocele, overweight, under sized chest, piles, gynaecomastia, tonsillitis, and varicocele.

  • A desirable candidate should not have :
  • Any past history of mental breakdown or fits.
  • Any symptom of functional or organic disease of heart and blood vessels
  • Enlargement of liver or spleen
  • Unstable  blood pressure
  • Abnormal ECG
  • Impediment of speech
  • Any congenital structural anomaly
  • Exclusively for the ultra cool and fashionistas of today: tattoos can be present only on the inside of forearm.

In case of tribal applicants, relaxation may be given by the authority incharged.

  • Specifications of spinal conditions:  candidate can be rejected for commissioning in the IAF due to medical history of injury or disease of spine or sacro iliac joints; there must be no sign of spinal fracture or prolapsed intervertebral disc or any surgical treatment.   • Furthermore, individuals attempting for the Air Force will have to separately go through an X- ray. Detection of the following problems will lead to their disqualification: greater than mild lordosis, arthiritis, herniated nucleus pulposes, compression fracture of vertebra, sacrilization disease, presence of Schmorl’s node at more than one level, Spina Bifidia, or any other defect as observed by the board members.
  • Candidates who underwent PRK test will be included in the fit- list.
  • Don’t miss to note that applicants who had cataract surgery (with or without IOC) will be considered unfit.
  • Filling out the crucial criteria of eyesight, weight and height, the following data is essential to understand:

  • Not mentioning teeth would be a big miss. Candidates must have minimum 14 dental points while 22 are desirable+ no symptom of pyorrhea.
  • Lastly, raise your potential by this short to- do- list:

Skipping daily

Pushups and sit- ups for minimum 20 minutes each

Aiming to run 2.4 km in 15 minutes

Minimum 8 chin ups

Regular rope climbing of 3-4 meters

Often we hear of cases where the applicants succeed in the written NDA exam but get rejected due to deficient medical norms. Hence a piece of suggestion to all the aspirants here: get a prior medical check up and start taking care of your health because landing in NDA without the wing of medical fitness is an illusion.
