Padma Awards are one of the highest civilian honors in India and these awards are announced on republic day every year. Padma Awards are presented to recognise the special achievements of people in the fields of Art, Science, and Literature. Padma Awards are also presented to recognise the special public service done by people. Padma Awards were instituted in 1954 for the first time and have been presented on 26th January by the president of India since then.

There are three categories of Padma Awards-

Padma Vibhushan- awarded for ‘exceptional and distinguished service
Padma Bhushan- awarded for ‘distinguished service of a high order’.
Padma Shree- awarded for ‘distinguished service’.
