1. ISRO has successfully conducted the flight acceptance hot test of the CE-20 cryogenic engine for the Chandrayan-3 mission-
The test was successfully conducted on February 24 at the ISRO Propulsion Complex, Mahendragiri, Tamil Nadu. The hot test was carried out for a planned duration of 25 seconds at the High Altitude Test Facility. The engine will power the Cryogenic Upper Stage of the LVM3 launch vehicle of the mission.
2. The maiden joint military exercise 'FRINJEX-23' between India and France, was conducted at the Pangode military station in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala from March 7 and 8, 2023-
It is for the first time that both countries are engaging in this format with each contingent comprising a Company Group. The theme for the exercise is based on “Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Operations in a Contested Environment”.
3. The first edition of the 2023 Naval Commanders' Conference has been started on March 6, 2023-
The first phase of the conference is held onboard India's first indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, in the Arabian Sea off Goa. Rajnath Singh addressed the Naval Commanders onboard INS Vikrant. This conference serves as a platform for Naval Commanders to discuss important security issues at the military-strategic level and interact with senior government functionaries.
4. The US Air Force handed over an earth observation satellite, NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar) to ISRO on March 8, 2023-
A US Air Force C-17 aircraft carrying the NISAR has landed in Bengaluru, Karnataka. It was jointly developed by NASA and ISRO. This satellite will be used by ISRO for a variety of purposes including agricultural mapping, and landslide-prone areas. It is a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) observatory. It will map the entire globe in 12 days.
5. The Indian Navy successfully fired a medium-range surface-to-surface missile (MRSAM) from INS Visakhapatnam-
This was done to validate the capability of the anti-tank missiles. MRSAM was developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and produced at Bharat Dynamics Ltd. The DRDO has already handed over two other versions to Indian Army and Indian Air Force to augment the country’s air defence power.
6. Rajasthan becomes First to clear Right to Health Bill-
Rajasthan Assembly passed the RTH (Right to Health) Bill which is intended at providing free medical facilities including OPD and IPD services. These grants are open to all the residents of the state, as the Ministry mentions. It was introduced in September 2022. After this various doctors and the opposition BJP party protested against it and demanded the bill be taken back.
7. Four Indian Women Win Gold Medal in Boxing Competition-
India is proud of the victorious results of the Women’s World Boxing Championship 2023. Four Indian women have won gold medals in various categories. These champions are Saweety Boora, Nitu Ghanghas, Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain. They topped the match in their respective bouts. The tournament was held between March 15 to 26, 2023.
8. UAE Introduced National Genome Strategy-
The President and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were present during the Genome Council where National Genome Strategy was presented. The objective of this program is to lay out inclusive legislative as well as governance structures. The plan is for about 10 years and will help in the overall improvement of the country. It is intended to arrange public health services.
9. Indian Army to set up GSAT 7B Satellite-
GSAT 7B, an advanced communication satellite will be launched by 2026 for the Indian Army that will aid them in their complex missions. The Ministry of Defence collaborated with NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) for a project worth Rs 3,000 crore to support and increase Army’s overall capabilities. The satellite will be indigenously built by ISRO with its unique security features. This will strengthen the army personnel in India by providing high-level communication facilities to troops deployed in various fields.
10. New India Literacy Programme-
Education is the foundation of a progressive society, and India has recognized the need to improve its literacy rates for economic and social development. The Indian Government has launched a new scheme, the New India Literacy Programme (NILP), to address the issue of adult illiteracy in the country. The financial outlay of NILP for the five-year implementation period is Rs.1037.90 crore, with Rs.700.00 crore as the Central share and Rs.337.90 crore as the State share. The scheme seeks to educate around 5 crore non-literates in the age group of 15 years and above. The scheme is a significant step towards empowering non-literates and enabling them to become self-sufficient.
