India-France Joint Bilateral Naval Exercise "Varuna"

 

India and France will jointly be conducting the 21st edition of the Varuna Naval Exercise. Varuna is a series of joint naval exercise between India and France that started in 2001. India and France share very deep defence relations. France is one of the biggest partner and weapon suppliers. France has supplied 36 fully armed Rafales and is working on various other defence projects.

 

Naval Exercise Varuna 2023

 

Varuna 2023 will be a five days long joint naval exercise. In this exercise, guided missile stealth destroyer INS Chennai, guided missile frigate INS Teg, maritime patrol aircraft P-8I and Dornier, integral helicopters, and MiG29K fighter aircraft will be participating from the Indian side. The aircraft carrier Charles De Gaulle, frigates FS Forbin and Provence, support vessel FS Marne and maritime patrol aircraft Atlantique will be participating from France's side.

 

India-France Defence Relations

 

India and France share not just very deep diplomatic relations but also defence relations. France provided India with the 4.5 generation fighter Jet Rafale. France collaborates with India on counter-terrorism and major defence technology. France supports India as a permanent member of the UN security council.
