• The Indian Government has given a total of 33 New GI Tags.
• Now Number of GI Tag Products in India is 465.
• GI Tags are given by the Department of Industry Promotion and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

What is a GI (Geographical Indication) Tag?

A GI (Geographical Indication) is primarily an agricultural, natural or manufactured product (handicrafts and industrial goods) originating from a definite geographical territory. GI Tag represents an assurance of quality and distinctiveness, which is essentially attributable to the place of its origin.

India gets elected to the UN Statistical Commission.

• India has been elected as a United Nations Statistical Commission Member for a term of four years.

Indira Gandhi International Airport has been declared as the 9th busiest Airport in the world.

• Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has been ranked as the ninth busiest airport in the world in 2022, handling 59.5 million passengers annually, data shared by the Airports Council International (ACI) World – a global organization which measures and assesses airports standards

Apple is going to open its first store in India.

• Apple will open its own Store in Mumbai.

The National Food Conclave is taking place in Hyderabad.

• The event will have five thematic tracks covering agriculture, edible oil, dairy, meat and poultry, and aquaculture. The Telangana government will host a Food Conclave-2023 on April 28 and 29.

The United Kingdom becomes the 12th member of CPTPP (Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for trans-pacific Partnership).

• CPTPP (Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for trans-pacific partnership) is a free trade agreement signed between 11 countries.
• The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), also known as TPP11 or TPP-11, is a trade agreement among Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam.

Israel launches Ofek-13 Spy Satellite into Orbit.

• Israel successfully launched a new spy satellite, named Ofek-13, into orbit. The satellite, Ofek-13, launched from the Palmachim Airbase in central Israel, is intended to provide advanced intelligence capabilities to the Israeli military and intelligence agencies.

The Chinese Yuan becomes the most traded currency in the world replacing the Dollar.

• The yuan surpassed the dollar in monthly trading volume in February for the first time, and the difference became more pronounced in March, according to data compiled by Bloomberg based on daily transaction reports.

Weightlifter Sanjita Chanu has been banned for 4 years by the National Anti-Doping Agency.

• The two-time Commonwealth Games champion and Indian weightlifter Sanjita Chanu was handed a four-year ban by India's National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) on Tuesday after she tested positive for banned drugs.
