AFCAT Non-Technical Syllabus
Serving in Indian Air Force is a glorious dream of many Defence Aspirants. Thus Indian Air Force conducts AFCAT Examination for those students who want to serve the nation for its honour and pride. Air Force Common Admission Test or AFCAT is an Entrance examination for selection of Class 1 or Group A Gazetted Officer in Flying & Ground Duties (Technical and Non-Technical posts)
Candidates got this opportunity twice in a year, particularly in months of February and August. Through the AFCAT exam candidates are recruited in the Indian Air Force for the following branches-
- Flying Branch
- Ground Duty Technical Branch
- Ground Duty Non-Technical Branch
The exam is conducted on National Level and now there is a good news for students preparing for AFCAT examination, IAF recently release 2023 notification of this defence exam.
The Indian Air Force announced total of 258 vacant posts to be filled on Flying & Ground Duties for both Technical and Non-Technical posts. The registration for AFCAT Exam 2023 was started on 01 December and its going till 31st December. Candidates are highly advice to check the required credentials for registration and if eligible, visit the official site of IAF and register your application on time.

AFCAT 2023 Exam Important Dates :
Indian Air Force is officially announced the AFCAT Exam 2023 dates and notification on 27 November. The registration was started from 01 December and as per IAF guidelines the exam will be held in February month. Here is a brief of important dates –

AFCAT Exam Eligibility :
Their are numerous eligibility criteria a candidate should acquire –
- AGE LIMIT :
- For Flying Branch:
Applicant age should be at least 20 years and it should not exceed to 24 years. The upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable up to 26 years.

- For Ground Duty (Technical/NonTechnical) Branches:
Here a candidate must posses the minimum age 20 years and maximum age limit is 26 Years.
AFCAT EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION :
For basic clearance, a candidate must passed 10+2 with 60% grade and he/she must be a Graduate from a recognised Board/University. Here we discuss educational requirements in brief, have a look -

- For Flying Branch :
Candidate must be a graduate with any degree and at least 60% on his/her final exam. He most likely passed math and physics with a grade of 60%.

- For the technical Branch :
Candidates must have completed Sections A and B of the Associate Membership Examination of the Indian Institute of Engineers or Aeronautical Society with at least a 60% grade point average.

- For Ground Duty Branch (NonTechnical) :
Graduate of a B. Com. programme with at least 60% marks is required for ground duty (non-technical). Candidates must have an MBA/MCA or M.A./M.Sc. degree in English, Physics, International Studies, Mathematics, Chemistry, Statistics, International Relations, Defence Studies, Psychology, Computer Science, IT, Management, Journalism, Public Relations, or Mass Communication with a minimum GPA of 50% and a minimum GPA of 60% to be considered for training official positions.
BASIC ELIGIBILITIES
- Both Male and Female Aspirants can take part in the examination
- Candidate applying for the AFCAT Exam 2023 must be a permanent resident of India.
- For Flying Branch a candidate has at least 162.5 cm height
- For Ground Duty ( Technical & Non Technical) male candidates must need 157.5 cm and Female need 152 cm of Height.
Exam Procedure :
The Notification released from Indian Air Force for AFCAT Exam 2023 declares the examination date which scheduled in the month of February.
The AFCAT Exam Selection process is held in three stages. Candidates need to qualify every stage of examination to be selected in Indian Air Force. These 3 stages are -
- Online Written Test (AFCAT 1)
- AFSB Testing (Including SSB Interview)
- Medical Examination

WRITTEN EXAMINATION
AFCAT-1 2023 Online Written Test is the direct or first step for candidates to qualify for Air force recruitment in Flying and Ground Duty posts (Technical and Non-Technical)
Candidate has given 100 Questions to attempt scoring 300 Marks total, in the sufficient time of 120 Minutes or 2 Hours. The subjects are listed below –
- General Awareness
- Verbal ability in English
- Numerical Ability
- Reasoning and Military Aptitude
Every section contains questions based on good level and to test candidate’s learning potential. Subjects other than numerical ability will be of graduation level and numerical ability will be of matriculation level. Here is detailed syllabus of all 4 subjects –

AFSB TESTING (SSB INTERVIEW)
After clearing AFCAT 1 Online Written Test, Candidates receive a call letter under which they are requested to come for AFSB (Air Force Selection Board) Testing or SSB Interview stage. This AFSB interview testing is conducting in different AFCAT Examination Centres in India which are AFSB Dehradun, AFSB Guwahati, AFSB Mysore, AFSB Varanasi and AFSB Gandhinagar
This selection procedure is conducted under 2 stages –
STAGE I
This stage held to test and analyse aspirant’s intelligence, mental fitness, and perception to complications. This will conducted on the first day of SSB/AFSB selection process and overall contains 2 tests :

- Officers Intelligence Rating Test
- Picture Perception Description Test
The results of Stage 1 will be announced on the same day of testing, if a candidate qualifies Screening test, he will go through the document verification before going to Stage 2. Here we mention all documents you need to bring for Verification :

- Original Matriculation/ Secondary School Certificate and Mark sheets
- Original Marksheet & Certificate of 10+2
- Original/ Provisional Graduation Degree
- Two photocopies (attested) of each of the aforesaid certificates.
- Original NCC Certificate as applicable
- No Objection Certificate (NOC) from existing employers
- Original valid Commercial Pilots’ License that is issued by DGCA as applicable
- Twenty (20) copies of recent passport-size colour photographs
STAGE II
The candidates who well qualified Stage 1, will go through the Stage 2 of testing. The test will conduct in the remaining days of AFSB Selection, here the Board analyse candidate’s overall personality, mental fitness and psychological understanding. These are the test a candidate should undergo in Stage 2 :
- Psychological Tests : Written psychological test
- Group Tasks – Include Mental and Physical Activities
- Personal Interview – in front of Interviewing Officer
- For Flying Branch- CPSS (Computerized Pilot Selection System)Test / PABT (Pilot Aptitude Battery Test)
MEDICAL EXAMINATION
The candidates who successfully qualify Stage I and Stage II testing will called for Final Selection test called Medical Examination. The candidates shortlisted or recommended by Selection Board have to report Air Force Central Medical Establishment (AFCME) New Delhi, or Institute of Aviation Medicine, Bengaluru for the medical examination. Candidate need to be well physically and mentally fit for the Medical Testing.
