Uttrakhand becomes the first state to implement a Uniform Civil Code.

  • Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly has passed the Uniform Civil Code Bill 2024.
  • Uniform Civil Code Bill 2024 seeks to standardize laws governing marriage, divorce, inheritance, and maintenance.
  • Under this law, the minimum age of marriage for women will be 18 and for men, it will be 21.
  • Under this UCC Law, Marriages need to be registered within 60 days.
  • Live In Marriage needs to be registered otherwise it will attract a penalty of 10,000 or 3 months of jail.

A bill to criminalize malpractices in exams has been passed by the Lok Sabha.

  • Lok Sabha has passed the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill 2024.
  • Under the provisions of this bill, any person involved in malpractices in any national exam will be fined 1 crore rupees or 10 years of imprisonment.

Myanmar Border will be fully fenced.

  • After being concerned with the ongoing conflict in Myanmar, Union Home Ministry has decided to create fencing on the India-Myanmar Border.
  • A track for patrolling along the border will also be constructed so that security forces can carry out routine patrolling.

Iran abolishes Visa Requirements for Indian Tourists.

  • To boost tourism in Iran, Iran has decided to abolish visa requirements for tourists coming for 15 days.

                                                Economy

Tax to GDP Ratio to hit an all-time high at 11.75%.

  • India's tax-to-GDP ratio is expected to hit a record high of 11.7% of GDP in 2024-25.
  • This progress was made largely due to an increase in Direct Tax share in total tax earnings.
